A THANGKA DEPICTING DORJE
SHUGDEN
Tibet, 18th/19th Century
red in color with fierce eyes and fanged teeth,
bearing a wavy sword, chula, in his right hand and
holding a human heart to his chest with his left,
richly attired in brocaded robes and wearing a
sakshu, or golden hat, surrounded in an aureole
of flames riding atop a white snow lion with a
green mane, overhead sits Padmasambhava
surmounted by four-armed Shadakshari
Lokeshvara, surrounded further by other deities
including Manjushri, Mahakala, Chakrasamvara,
Amitayus, White Tara and other wrathful
protectors, all set in a green mountainous
landscape
