           Avalokiteshvara seated in maharajalilasana on a
           lotus rising from the ocean and within a fenced   a male and female of deer, sitting quietly with
           compound surrounded by trees, an inscribed   their legs gently folded beneath them, their heads
           pillar to the right, red Amitabha above flanked by   slightly lifted, their eyes aware and attentive and
           two Gelukpa hierarchs, blue Akshobya below to   their ears erect
           the left and white Vajrasattva and consort to the   Length 24½ in. (62 cm.)
           right, with green Tara and blue Ekajata beneath

           Tibeto-Chinese, 19th Century
           with Vairocana seated in the center in
           dhayanasana on a lotus throne wearing a
           patchwork robe with jeweled halos behind,
           elaborate flora and foliage decorating the throne,
           his hands are held at heart level, the deity
           surrounded by a multitude of smaller Buddhas in
           various mudras all outlined in red on gold ground
           35½ by 26 in. (89.5 by 66 cm.)
