               A DULING SOAPSTONE SEAL CARVED BY ZHOU
               KANGYUAN FOR CHEN BAOCHEN
               DATED JIAZI CYCLICAL YEAR OF THE REPUBLIC PERIOD, CORRESPONDING TO
               1924 AND OF THE PERIOD
               The columnar seal of square section is surmounted by a pair of chilong grasping
               a lingzhi branch and playfully clambering over each other’s back. One of the
               vertical sides is incised with an inscription in seal script signed Zhou Kangyuan,
               dated to the winter of jiazi cyclical year (1924). The seal face is carved in intaglio
               with a nine-character inscription reading, ‘Chen Baochen, zi Baoqian, hao
