                BLUE AND COPPER-                            ㎼᳊㨛㈸㦢ऐⰑ

                Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period     Inspired by late Ming dynasty examples,   ҳ⎽
                                                the present dish is exceptional for its high   Marchant⧍侚2001䎃
                the rounded sides # aring to an everted foliate
                                                quality of potting and ! ne application and
                rim, the interior painted in varying tones of
                                                control of the underglaze blue and copper-
                underglaze-blue with a single stylized peony
                                                red decoration. The masterful control of the
                blossom centered with a cluster of copper-
                                                underglaze blue which ranges from pale sky
                red stamen, further red clusters amid the
                                                to midnight-blue imbues the # owerhead with
                curling leaves framing the bloom, all against
                                                notable depth and vibrancy. The composition
                a pale blue-wash ground, surmounted by a
                                                is further enhanced by the small dotted
                narrow blue and red demi-# oret band, the
                                                clusters of vivid copper-red . The inclusion of
                border repeated on the reverse in blue,  the
                                                the delicate anhua carving further re! nes the
                underside ! nely incised with scrolling lotus in
                                                form and attests to the technical prowess of
                the anhua technique, three underglaze-blue
                                                the workshop which produced such a splendid
                lines encircling the foot, the base with an
                                                version of the coarser Ming dynasty prototype.
