each with shallow rounded sides rising to an
everted rim, painted to the interior with a central
medallion enclosing a ve-clawed dragon writhing
among ames reaching for a ‘ aming pearl’
within a double-line border repeated at the rim,
the reverse with two dragons striding in similar
pursuit, the base with a six-character seal mark in
underglaze blue (2)

the pear-shaped body painted around the
sides with banana fronds and bamboo beside
rocks in a fenced garden, between a band of
lappets encircling the base and a ruyi band at
the shoulder, the waisted neck with a scrollwork
frieze beneath a band of upright sti leaves, the
base with a six-character mark in underglaze blue
Height 11½ in., 29.2 cm

A vase of this design and period from the collection
of C. P. Lin was included in the exhibition Elegant
Form and Harmonious Decoration, Percival David
Foundation, London, 1992, cat. no. 198, and
another was in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of
Late Qing from the Kwan Collection, Art Gallery,
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1983, cat.
no. 91.
