MYTHICAL BEASTS
19th century
The first beast in the form of a lion with a
single horn, with a speckled pink hide with
green mane and tail, wood stand; the second
recumbent dog-like beast with two horns,
covered in a robin’s egg glaze. The largest:
20cm (7 7/8in) high (2).

MODELS OF CAPARISONED ELEPHANTS
Late Qing Dynasty
Each modelled striding with a curled up trunk,
wearing a large blue enamelled saddle blanket
with geometric floral designs, a boy seated
before a rectangular howdah, enamelled with
alternating pink and blue panels on a coral
red ground, the interior turquoise and rim gilt,
the bodies of the elephants enamelled in pale
apricot, finely overpainted to simulate the
folds of skin.
