The characters shown above are Ku-tani. Kutani is
the name of the district in the province of Kaga in which
the ware of that name was first made. No. 139.—Painted
in blue upon a Teapot of ancient pottery. No. 140.—Painted,

gold, upon a panel of red, on a Bowl of early ware. No.
