choice middle period ware. Ku-tani, To-zan seisu. Made
by Tozan, Kutani.

Painted in black, upon a yellow ground, on a Dish
of common polychromatic ware. Dai Nip-pon, Ku-tani sei
Made in Kutani, Great yapart. The characters to the left
are To-o, meaning Tozan, the 0 being used in place of zan,
because the member of the family who made the specimen
was an old man—The old man Tozan.
