A LARGE PAIR OF BRONZE BUDDHIST
LION CANDLE HOLDERS
18TH CENTURY
The Buddhist lions are cast standing in mirror
image, their heads turned towards each other,
teeth barred, their manes and tails with tight curls.
Each ferocious beast supports a vase on its back
that is decorated in relief with chilong amongst
leafy scrolls, on a saddle cloth that is further
embellished with dragons.
