6                                                                              Lama Tsongkapa (1357-1419) was the founder of the Gelugpa School of
                                                                               Tibetan Buddhism. In 1409 he established the Ganden Monastery in Lhasa
A THANGKA DEPICTING TSONGKHAPA                                                 which became the principal seat of the school. As seen in the current lot, he
18TH-19TH CENTURY                                                              is often depicted wearing a yellow pandita hat and the orange patchwork
                                                                               robes of a fully ordained monk.
Tsongkhapa is depicted seated to the right-hand side beside various fgures of
Buddha, bodhisattvas, luohan and deities in tiered landscape scenes, with a    清十八/十九世紀 宗喀巴唐卡
temple to the lower left side.
