17TH-18TH CENTURY
The cylindrical brushpot is fnely inlaid with mother-of-pearl, stained bone,
coral and soapstone, to depict an egret in fight diving towards a companion
egret which is wading through a pond of fowering lotuses and waterweeds.
The reverse has a couplet inlaid in mother-of-pearl which may be translated as:
‘In the shimmering waters, there is a unity of colours; during the long day, the
fragrant wind gently blows’, followed by two seals, Qingshang, ‘In Appreciation
of Clarity’,
