     A VERY RARE PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE BUDDHIST TRIAD

     18TH CENTURY

     The group is centered by a fgure of Buddha holding a ritual bell while seated in dhyanasana

     on a waisted, lotus petal throne from which rises, in back, a petal-shaped aureole carved on

     the front and back with leafy lotus scroll and from which issues, on the sides, two leafy stems

     bearing small, waisted lotus socles that support the disciples Kasyapa and Ananda. The stone is

     of even soft, pale celadon color. Together with a small white jade fgural fnial.

     10æ in. (27.3 cm.) high, gilt-good base mounted as a lamp                                     (2)

     PROVENANCE:

     Acquired prior to 1920, by repute from Yamanaka & Co., New York, and thence by descent
     within the family.
