grit used to keep the glaze from sticking to the firing surface
remains adhered to the base.
A bronze example of this bottle form is held in the collection
of the Harvard Art Museum. The somewhat angular transi-

tions in the shape of this vessel suggest the design for this
bottle came from a metalware original.
