                                                             the bottle was fired can be seen on the base and footrim.
                                                             There are also remains of kiln grit on part of the footrim. The
                                                             exposed areas of the body that were not originally covered
                                                             with glaze oxidized a reddish color, though the unexposed
                                                             body material is actually gray.

                                                             In order to fire a celadon glaze of even and ideal color, a
                                                             subtle bluish or grayish-green, the wares must be fired in a
                                                             well-controlled reduction atmosphere, meaning the process
                                                             by which oxidation is prevented by the removal of oxygen
                                                             within the kiln. If the atmospheric conditions are not kept
                                                             consistent within the kiln, the glaze color will become un-
                                                             even, such as on this piece.
