Oshort, constricted neck, this oil bottle is coated in cela-
don glaze. The base is glazed within the footrim and has kiln
scars resulting from four clay pads. This bottle probably once
had an accompanying stopper.
Small oil bottles held scented oils and were used by women
from wealthy families to oil their hair and bodies. Earlier ex-
amples such as this are more globular in form. Small, squat
oil bottles, which could be accommodated within ceramic
boxes along with other small ceramic cosmetic containers,
37. were fashionable during the height of celadon production in
