A LARGE EMBROIDERED ‘LONGEVITY’
PANEL
20th century
Portraying two deities of longevity, Magu with
a basket holding the ‘Three Abundances’
(sanduo), and a cup of lingzhi wine, and
Shoulao holding a longevity peach, a deer
beside them and a bat and crane overhead,
all rendered in satin stitch with batting
beneath the deities’ faces to add depth,

TWO LADY’S EMBROIDERED JACKETS
Late Qing dynasty
The first of midnight blue silk with wide
sleeves, embroidered butterflies and
scattered blossoms, the collar, front opening
and hem edged with ribbon; the second
of red silk, couched and embroidered with
a dragon amidst clouds, blossoms and
auspicious emblems, above a palace flanked
by carp rising from churning waves, all
bordered in blue (fading, wear, modifications).
