Republic period
Now mounted as a table screen, depicting figures and architecture
in a mountainous waterside landscape, the inscription identifying the
place as Meng mountain in Jiangxi, including the cyclical date yihai
(equivalent to 1935), an unidentified signature and seal reading zhi
yin.

Republic period
Of tall rectangular section depicting birds perching amid a colorful
profusion of rocks and flowers, inscribed to bear the renxu cyclical
date [1922] and to bear the signature of a Wang Yousu.

A vase that was decorated in similar birds and flowers but in a
slightly less vibrant palette also bearing a signature of Wang Yousu
was offered in these rooms as lot 5132 in sale 24264 of 4 October
2017. It is interesting to compare how the more ‘pastel’ qianjiangcai
hues on that vase dated to 1901 became brighter presumably as kiln
control improved during the Republic era.

A QIANJIANGCAI ENAMELED BASIN
Zhu Yuting, dated by inscription to 1887
The interior surfaces covered in a hilly landscape in the typical pastel-
colored palette encircled by a raised exterior lip above the flat mouth
rim inscribed in a lengthy poetic ode with signature and dinghai date,
the exterior sides plain and the base without glaze.

A QIANJIANGCAI ENAMELED HAT STAND
Tongzhi mark, late Qing/Republic period
Of cylindrical form, painted in softly hued enamels with four beauties
in a garden reversed by a twenty-character inscription in black
enamel, the recessed base bearing a stamped four-character mark in
worn iron red enamel.
