Catalogue Note
Qianlong-marked puce-enameled candlesticks of this form are extremely rare; see one, but of much larger size, sold in these
rooms, 15th March 2017, lot 535. Candlesticks of this type were generally created as part of five-piece altar garniture sets, which
comprised of a censer, two gu vases and two candlesticks, and decorated in various color combinations. A Qianlong mark and
period censer painted in puce enamel with confronting dragons was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 26th November 1980, lot 413.
Larger Qianlong mark and period candlesticks of this form were created in a variety of palettes; for example see a doucai version,
sold in our London rooms, 6th November 2013, lot 176; and a yellow-ground famille-rose-decorated pair, sold in our Hong Kong
rooms, 8th April 2007, lot 515.
