110 A JIANYAO ‘HARE’S FUR’
TEA BOWL
SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY,
12TH-13TH CENTURY
The conical bowl is covered inside and out
with a lustrous blackish-brown glaze fnely
streaked with russet ‘hare’s fur’ markings
below the unglazed russet-brown rim
and falling in an irregular line to the angle
above the foot exposing the ware fred to a
purplish-brown color.

AN UNUSUAL SMALL RUSSET-
SPLASHED BLACK-GLAZED
GARLIC-MOUTHED BOTTLE
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY,
11TH-12TH CENTURY
The bottle has a pair of rope-twist loop
handles fanking the constricted neck and
is covered with a lustrous blackish-brown
glaze decorated with large russet splashes
that ends in a clean line on the lower body,
exposing the fne, pale grey ware.
