A YELLOW JADE ‘DRAGON’ RING

extending from a circular disc, intricately carved on both sides of the 松竹堂收藏,編號35
ring with a dense pattern of tight scrolls, the dragon head detailed with
circular eyes and a prominent snout, the stone of a pale yellow tone 出版及著錄:

Bi discs of the same design as the present lot are rare. For a related
example of a bi disc with a similarly carved ground of scrolling pattern,
issuing two dragons from the edge, Spring and Autumn period, in
the Shanghai Museum, see Zhang Wei, Shanghai bowuguan cangpin
yanjiu daxi: Zhongguo gudai yuqi, Beijing, 2009, p.134, pl.95. This
type of scrolling pattern, also known as the ‘coiling snake’ or panhui
motif, was popular during the Spring and Autumn period and can be
found on bronze vessels as well. For further related examples, see
one excavated from tomb no.58 in the old capital city of the State of
Lu in Qufu, Shandong Province, mid Warring States period, illustrated
