The Moon-goddess, Chang-e, returns with her beloved to the Moon Palace
Cherry
ying-tao
The Chinese words ying-tao really mean ‘baby peach’. Like many other kinds of fruit,
the cherry was probably brought at an early date from western Asia. As in the West,
‘cherry lips’ or a ‘cherry mouth’ are stock attributes of female beauty.
The expression ‘eating cherries’, however, should be used with caution in China: it
means ‘having sexual intercourse’.
