    A RARE WHITE JADE RETICULATED
    ‘DRAGON AND PHOENIX’ PLAQUE

    WARRING STATES PERIOD (475-221 BC)

    The plaque is well-carved as three pairs of interlocking phoenix
    and a pair of confronting dragons in the centre, each highlighted
    by the delicately incised detail on the body. The stone is of a
    yellowish-white tone with some areas of minor russet inclusions.

    Compare a jade pendant with near identical design, dating
    to early Warring States period, now in the Henan Antique
    Archaeology Institute, illustrated in Zhongguo Yuqi Quanji 3 –
    Chunqiu, Zhanguo, Hebei, 1993, p. 101, no. 159 (fig. 1)
