           Herons and Reeds/Flowering Prunus
           Edo period, 19th century
           A pair of door panels (fusuma), ink and color
           on hinoki wood, set within a red-lacquered
           border and with floral-etched gilt metal pulls;
           the front panels with a flying white heron
           gazing back at two companions wading
           through wind-swept reeds, the reverse with a
           gnarled prunus tree in full blossom (extensive
           wear).

           A PAIR OF MASSIVE BLUE-AND-WHITE
           OVOID PORCELAIN URNS
           Meiji era, 19th century
           Each elongated body painted in shades
           of underglaze blue with a lush flowering
           landscape bordered by a pond and populated
           by various types of birds, all below raised
           horizontal rings framing a wide central bulb
           with a cobalt blue band of stylized peonies   5004
           separating medallions of fruiting branches
           or mountain landscapes, the waisted neck
           decorated with further birds and flowering
           branches below a wide scalloped-edged rim
           (damage to rims, some repairs).

           A similar pair of monumental urns are
           depicted in John Singer Sargent’s painting
           entitled “The Daughters of Edward Darley
           Boit,” 1882, now in the Boston Museum of
           Fine Arts .
