           TWO-CASE INRO
           By Koma Kansai, after a design by Hon’ami
           Koetsu (1558-1637), Edo period (1615-1868),
           19th century
           The black-lacquer ground decorated with
           rolling Rinpa-style waves, extending over the
           top and bottom, one side decorated with two
           barges laden with bundles of wheat, the hull
           of one inlaid in shell, the other in pewter, the
           reverse with another barge inlaid in pewter;
           signed in a rectangular reserve Koetsu no zu
           Kansai utsuru (A design by Koetsu recreated
           by Kansai). 6.6cm (2 5/8in) high.

           FIVE-CASE INRO
           Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1800
           The rich black-lacquer ground decorated with
           togidashi maki-e, depicting a red spiny lobster
           perched on rocks at the shoreline, swirling
           waves crashing against the rocks, the spray of
           gold and silver mura-nashiji, unsigned; with a
           red coral ojime. 9cm (3½in) high.    12

           A METAL-INLAID GOLD-LACQUER
           FOUR-CASE INRO
           By Shokyosai, Edo period (1615-1868),
           circa 1850
           Of oval form, each side with a foliate reserve,
           decorated in gold hiramaki-e with polychrome
           accents, depicting courtiers in a mansion,
           one kneeling in a large room awaiting orders
           from his master on the other side, inspecting a
           document on a low table, the figures inlaid in
           metal with gilt details; signed Shokyosai.
           8.5cm (3 5/16in) high.
