Edo period (1615-1868), 18th to 19th century
All of shakudo nanako with decoration in
gold relief, some details in other metals; the
first with a shishi (Chinese mythical lion) and
peonies; the second with dragons in clouds,
with signature Yanagawa Naomasa and a kao;
the last with dragon roundels, signed Isono-
shi kore o horu (Mr Isono carved this). (6).

The fuchi-gashira of shibuichi or shakudo
nanako, decorated in a variety of chiselling
and inlay techniques, the first, the kashira
with Omori Hikoshichi and Chihaya, with
an unassociated fuchi with horses, signed
Inagawa Yoshikatsu with a kao; the second
with a mounted warrior battling a yamabushi
(warrior monk); the third with rats and
a hanging scroll and fan, with signature
Yasuchika; the fourth with waves and spray,
signed Omori Hidetomo with a kao; the fuchi
of shakudo nanako with autumn plants and
insects. (9).

Four of shibuichi, two of shakudo, and one
of copper, decorated in a variety of chiselling
and inlay techniques, the first of an archer,
possibly Minamoto no Tametomo, sitting
beneath a pine tree with two kneeling oni
(demons) before him, with signature Konkan;
the second with a Chinese archer, signed
Senkakudo Tomotoshi tsukuru (Made by
Senkakudo Tomotoshi); the third a dancer
with rowdy spectators; the fourth with the
race across the Uji River; the fifth with warriors
crossing a river, signed Nara Naomasa tsukuru
(Made by Naomasa of Nara); the sixth with a
40 rock, waves and crest, signed Katsuryuken
Naochika; the seventh with Yoshitsune leaping
over eight ships; the fuchi of shibuichi with a
farmer and bundles of firewood, with signature
Echizen no daijo Nagatsune and a kao; the
kashira of shibuichi with Enma-o and the Hell
Courtesan. (16).
