migaki-ji, decorated in a variety of chiselling
and inlay techniques, the first with hawks on
perches, with signature Yanagawa Naomasa
and a kao; the second with cranes, signed
Sadayoshi; the third with a pheasant and
flowering cherry tree, with signature Haruaki
Hogen, a kao, and a stamped mark 49; the
fourth with geese, signed Juzan Nagayoshi 44
with a kao; the fifth with a rooster, hen, and
chick, signed Yokoya Harushige with a kao;
the kashira of shakudo nanako, with a raptor
in flight, the fuchi of shakudo with peasants
crossing a bridge in a storm, with signature
Kan’eishi Nomura Kanenori. (12).

and one of brass, decorated in a variety of
chiselling and inlay techniques, the first with
cranes and flowering prunus tree; the second
with crows, a perch, the moon, and clouds;
the third of quails and autumn plants, signed
Sonobe Yoshihide (1805-1864) with a kao;
the fourth with the moon, bamboo, oxen, ox-
herder, and a tree, signed Masayasu (d.1790) 45
with a kao; the fifth a raptor in a flowering
prunus tree while a monkey cowers behind
the tree trunk, with signature Iwamoto Ryokan;
the kashira with pheasants, the unassociated
fuchi with horses, signed Yanagawa Naomitsu
(1733-1809) with a kao. (12).
