SIX FUCHI-GASHIRA (HILT COLLARS
AND POMMELS)
Edo period (1615-1868), 18th to 19th century
Three of shakudo nanako, one of shibuichi,
and one of copper, decorated in a variety of
chiselling and inlay techniques, the first with
passengers on a boat by the riverside, with
signature Nagatsune and a kao; the second
with tatebina dolls, branches of blossom,
and other toys; the third with samurai
accoutrements; the fourth with rocks and
shells by a stream, dated Ansei go tsuchinoe-
uma (1858) and signed Koryusai Kazunori
(1824-1876) with a kao; the sixth with waves
and spray, signed Toshiyuki with a kao; the
fuchi of shibuichi with possibly a crow on a
branch; the kashira of shakudo nanako with a
well bucket, pulley, and rope. (12).
