seated Guanyin
Republic period
The deity carved seated on rockwork with
eyes looking serenely downwards beneath
the veiled chignon, the right hand raised in
blessing above the left hand holding a small
vessel, the long robes tucked around the bent
left leg and the outstretched right leg.

A large jadeite ‘chilong, squirrel
and gourd’ brush washer
20th century
The deeply hollowed vessel carved from a
soft green stone with contrasting spinach
green and caramel-colored inclusions, the
large hollow gourd supported on a twisting
vine issuing further fruit and spreading
veined leaves, a chilong crouched at the
rim with its long tail reaching across the
opening and staring at a bushy-tailed
squirrel climbing along a stem.
