A pair of finely carved spinach-
green jade plaques with
landscapes and gilt longevity
characters
18th/19th century
Each of relatively thick rectangular section,
skillfully carved on one side in varying levels
of relief with craggy mountains enveloped in
clouds: one depicting pine and wutong trees
issuing precipitously from the sides of cliffs
with branches overhanging above a waterfall
pouring through serrated rock; the other
similarly executed, centered with majestic
pine and wutong soaring among foliage-
decorated rocks; the reverse of each plaque
neatly incised with one hundred and twenty
gilt-washed shou characters in various fonts
arranged in eight columns; the evenly-hued
green stone marked with typical black specks
and small areas of faint russet and off-white
inclusions; each plaque well fitted within a
carved wood easel with archaic coin design.
