FOUR INSIDE PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLES
20th/21st century
The first of upright rectangular form, with a flat lip and a rectangular
foot rim, fixed ring mask handles to the sides, one face with a portrait
of Monk Yixing, and inscribed with the monk’s name in clerical script
and signed Liu Shouben (born 1943) with a painted artist’s seal,
reversed by a portrait of Qian Yi, with the subject’s name in clerical
script; the second bottle of upright rectangular form one side painted
with a lounging woman with caged birds and dated xinmao (2011) and
signed Lu Jianguang with two artist’s seals, reversed by a painting of
a woman reading a book, signed Jianguang with an artist’s seal, with
another artist’s seal on the foot; the third bottle of rounded rectangular
form, painted on one side with a portrait of Xun Kuang (Xunzi), his
name in clerical script, reversed by a bird on a branch, dated jiayin
(1974); the fourth bottle with a scene of figures in a landscape, dated
gengwu (1990) and signed Liu Shouben with a painted artist’s seal.
