A LAPIS LAZULI ‘BIRD AND PEACH’ CARVING
18TH CENTURY
The bird is carved with its wings folded on its back and a ferce expression on
its face. In its beak it clutches a leafy branch bearing two large peaches. The
stone is of a bright blue tone sufused with golden inclusions.
