A BRONZE LUDUAN CENSER AND COVER
17TH CENTURY
The censer is fnely cast as a mythical beast
luduan, standing foursquare clutching a snake in
its paws. Its head forms the cover of the vessel and
is cast with a single horn, its face bears an alert
expression with an open mouth. The details of the
fur and body are fnely executed. The belly bears an
apocryphal Xuande mark.

A SMALL CINNABAR LACQUER
CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
18TH CENTURY
The cover is carved with a roundel enclosing
a scholar and attendant below a pine tree in a
mountainous landscape. The sides of the cover
and the base are decorated with alternating fower
heads and nodes on a diamond-patterned ground.
