A GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED ZITAN EWER, DUOMUHU
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The ewer is carved with a cylindrical body separated into three sections by gilt-
bronze bands decorated with fower and archaistic scrolls. The upper section
is crafted in the shape of a monk’s cap, and is set with an s-shaped spout
with a mythical beast-head terminal. The body is carved in low relief with
confronting archaistic dragon scrolls on a geometric patterned ground. The
reverse is afixed with two loops in the form of fower heads. The domed cover
is similarly decorated and is surmounted by an agate lingzhi fnial.
