A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A BUDDHIST
LION
17TH CENTURY
The recumbent lion is depicted with its head
turned to one side, its front paws resting below
and its hind legs tucked under its body. Its mane
and tail are fnely cast with tight curls and the
prominent vertebrae of its curved backbone are
elegantly picked out. There is a circular aperture to
the top of the lion’s back.

A BRONZE FIGURE OF PANJARNATA
MAHAKALA
18TH CENTURY
The deity is depicted standing upon a fgure on a
lotus base, holding a kartri and kapala in his hands.
His face is cast with a ferce expression and a
bulging third eye and his hair pulled into a faming
chignon secured with a vajra, behind a tiara of
skulls. The fgure is adorned with celestial scarves
billowing across the shoulders and garlands of
snakes and skulls on the body, his waist is tied with
a tiger skin.
