                                                              A YELLOW JADE ‘SCHOLAR AND PINE’ PLAQUE
                                                              18TH-19TH CENTURY
                                                              The plaque is fnely carved to one side with a cartouche depicting three
                                                              scholars under a pine tree playing weiqi, enclosed by two kui dragons. The
                                                              reverse is carved with poetic lines extracted from the poem entitled ‘Liu Shijiu
                                                              Tong Su’ by the Tang poet Bai Juyi(772-846 AD) in a cartouche. The stone is of
                                                              an even yellow tone.

                                                              A WHITE JADE ‘HEHE ERXIAN’ GROUP AND A JADEITE ‘BOY

                              61                              The white jade is carved as the twins, one holding a rounded box in front of
                                                              him, the other a large coin behind his back. The white stone has a few snow
                                                              fakes and russet inclusions.  The jadeite is carved as a smiling boy petting a
                                                              cat. The jadeite is of a pale green colour with apple-green sections.
                                                              The larger, 1æ. in. (4.5 cm.) wide.
