LACQUER TRAY Edo, 18th/19th century Meiji
Meiji Lacquered in gold hiramaki-e and e-nashiji The exterior decorated all over with bamboo
The raised rim of meandering oval outline, with central circular black lacquer panel leaves and stems in blues and greens on a
formed from a section of a natural burr, depicting two cranes and two turtles besides black ground, with formal bands at neck and
the surface painted in gilt and red with a pine growing on the banks of stream, on a foot, the interior in blue enamel,
three-clawed dragon clutching a pearl within red lacquer ground, the sides of the tray with 19.5cm high
vaporous swirling clouds, on a mottled red, stylised foliage,
