A cinnabar lacquer vessel
18th/19th century
Of ingot shape, the interior well centered on a lotus blossom
bracketed by flying bats under a key fret band, flanked by tapered
panels of lotus and leafy foliage, the exterior finely carved with
geometric brackets framing a stylized shou character set in relief
against a leiwen ground.

A cinnabar lacquer scroll rest
Qing dynasty
The concave rectangular surface finely carved and undercut with
a scholar and two attendants seated under a pine bough partially
obscured by trailing clouds, the scene enclosed by a key fret border
above tapered sides carved with clusters of peonies and leafy stems.

A fine cinnabar lacquer baluster vase
19th century
Raised on a key fret and lapped banded base, the square sided vessel
tapering elegantly in to a narrow neck and banded rim set off by
paired spiral-shaped handles carved with leiwen bands, the body and
neck finely carved with staggered pendant leaves embellished on the
interior with disintegrated zoomorphs on a diaper ground separated by
a shoulder band of abstract gui dragons cavorting on a field of further
cloud and leaf shapes.
