A fencai enameled ‘Teng ge gao feng’ bowl
Daoguang mark, Republic period
Of inverted bell form with a gilt band trimming the flared rim and
supported on a tall foot, the exterior walls painted in vivid hues of
the famille rose palette with a water scape of boats and architecture,
entitled Teng ge gao feng (A Great Wind Blowing toward the Pavilion
of [Prince] Teng), picturing the famous pavilion on the banks of the
Gan river at Nanchang, built in 653 by Prince Teng (Li Yuanyin), the
younger brother of Tang emperor Taizong; the underside bearing a six-
character Daoguang mark written in iron red seal script.

The landscape of this bowl is loosely based on one of scenic views
that originated on a set of ten bowls during the Jiaqing period and
copied in subsequent years (see Geng Baochang, Ming Qing ciqi
jianding, 1987, p. 293). A complete set of ten Jiaqing mark and period
bowls, apparently unique, sold most recently in Sotheby’s, Hong Kong
sale, The Meiyintang Collection, 7 April 2011, lot 17.

A pair of famille rose enameled rouleau vases
Kangxi marks, Late Qing dynasty
Each molded with a cupped rim to the cylindrical neck, a canted
shoulder and elongated body tapering inward toward the tall foot,
the exterior walls painted with elaborately dressed soldiers, officials
and attendants gathered in edited garden settings drawn in fine
outline and colored with bright enamels, the recessed base bearing
a six-character Kangxi mark enclosed within a double ring drawn in
underglaze blue.

A pair of yellow ground garden seats with
polychrome phoenix and dragon decoration
Late Qing/Republic period
Each of drum form with rows of raised bosses on the curving walls cut
with opposing cash-patterned openings that separate a dragon and
a phoenix standing amid flowering plants and fungus painted in rich
colors on the opaque yellow ground.
