18th/19th century
The central figure of Buddha Sakyamuni, seated in dhyanasana upon
a stylised lotus throne, the Buddha’s hands in the gestures of dhyana
mudra and bhumisparsha mudra, at each side stand his principle
students Shariputra and Maudgalayana, each holding a khakkhara
staff and a begging bowl, the mandorla framed by leafy lotus sprays
beneath stylised cloud scrolls at the top, framed and glazed.

An embroidered gAuze hAnging textile
Late Qing Dynasty
The yellow gauze woven with tone-sur-tone dragon roundels and
vividly embroidered with a sinuous front-facing five-clawed dragon
beneath a ‘wan’ roundel and amidst alighting bats and billowing
clouds, all above a craggy rocky outcrop rising from turbulent waves.
