                                                                                                                                            China, late Ming to earlier Qing dynasty, 17th –
                                                                                                                                            18th century. A heavily potted and classic pair
                                                                                                                                            of Buddhist lions, one with a brocade ball and
                                                                                                                                            the other with a cub. The rectangular bases are
                                                                                                                                            executed in openwork. (2)

                                                                                                                                            Condition: Good condition with minor wear,
                                                                                                                                            some chipping and few minor glaze losses.
                                                                                                                                            Provenance: From the collection of Georg
                                                                                                                                            Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in
                                                                                                                                            the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian
                                                                                                                                            industrialist and the first governor of the Federal
