A PALE MOTTLED GREY JADE ‘CHILONG’ CUP
SONG-MING DYNASTY ( 960-1279)

The cup is carved and pierced with the handle formed as a muscular chilong
grasping the rim, its bifurcated tail trailing to one side, a smaller chilong further
along the rim. The stone is of a mottled grey tone with striations and fecks.

A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE ‘DRAGON-TURTLE’ HINGED
BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

The hollowed box is carved in the form of a part dragon-part turtle
mythical beast with a ferce expression, horns and shell. The hinge is
carved in high relief on its shell with the cover in the form of a book. The
facial details and claw feet are all fnely detailed. The stone is of a mottled
celadon and russet tone with cloudy white fecks, inclusions and fssures.

TWO JADE CHILONG BI DISCS
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644) OR EARLIER

The largest bi is carved in high relief with two sinuous chilong to

one side and with raised nodes to the reverse, the stone is of a

celadon and russet tone with inclusions, fecks and small areas

of calcifcation; the smaller bi is similarly carved with chilong and

raised nodes, the stone is of a mottled dark grey tone with paler

grey inclusions and striations.
