borne on leafy sprays, the reverse signed Fujie followed by a
seal reading Deng

Deng Fujia, zi Yongji, is a native of Fujian. He was a celebrated
bamboo carver active in the late Yongzheng to early Qianlong
period, and was particularly known for his carved depictions
of floral sprays. A bamboo-root figure of Tao Yuanming
appreciating chrysanthemum, signed Yongji, is in the collection
of Shanghai Museum.
