           CENTURY                           11. The scene depicts the celebrated scholar-
                                             official Su Shi (1032-1101), making an excursion
           of cylindrical form resting on three short feet, the
                                             to the Red Cliff. Compare a bamboo brushpot
           exterior well carved in varying levels of relief with
                                             illustrating the same subject matter signed Deng
           a continuous figural landscape depicting Su Shi’s
                                             Wei, sold at Christie’s New York, 19th September
           first visit to the Red Cliff with his companions,
                                             2007, lot 33; another, from the Lutz collection,
           the figures portrayed on a raft, two at the back
                                             sold in our New York rooms, 18th March 2008,
           steering the vessel towards the Red Cliff, three
                                             lot 49; and another sold in our Hong Kong rooms,
           seated around a table in the centre of the deck,
                                             6th April 2016, lot 3030.
           and another two attendants at the bow, the
           riverscape accentuated with a mountainous
           background and overhanging pine trees issuing
           from the cliffs, the patina of a slightly reddish-
           brown colour
           15.9 cm, 6¼ in.
