A LARGE CARVED LONGQUAN CELADON
BARBED-RIM BOWL
MING DYNASTY, 14TH-15TH CENTURY
The sturdily-potted deep bowl is moulded with fluted walls
extending to the bracketed rim. The interior is carved to the
centre with an open flower, surrounded by two scrolling peonies
separated by leafy stems. The decoration is similarly repeated
on the exterior with a band of stylised flowers enclosed within
combed borders along the rim, all under an attractive green glaze
pooling in the recesses, with the unglazed ring on the underside
fired to a rusty orange tone.
