A BRONZE ‘MYTHICAL BEAST’ CENSER AND STAND
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The well-cast body of the censer is decorated with mythical beasts
gambolling amidst a sea of crashing waves, divided by a pair of lion
mask handles. The stand is raised on six ruyi-shaped feet, decorated with
lion masks divided by lotus sprays. The base of the censer is cast with an
apocryphal Xuande four-character seal mark.
