The god of wisdom depicted as an old man in scholar’s robes sits at
ease stroking his beard, leaning against a reclining deer, (one horn
lacking), marked to base.

Attributed to Ota Motoshiro, Meiji era
Intricately worked in silver wire of varying gauge and decorated with an
overall design of stalks of white chrysanthemums issuing from behind
boulders enclosed within bamboo fences on the banks of a stylised
stream, all reserved on a midnight-blue ground; signed on the base
with the mark of Ota Motoshiro.

Style of Namikawa Yasuyuki, Meiji era
Constructed in a Middle Eastern form, the body, spout and cover
worked mainly in silver wire, the upper section decorated with a
horizontal formation of red-crested cranes flying beneath roundels
enclosing stylised butterflies, dragons, ho-o birds (phoenix) and
floral motifs interwoven among grasses, the lower section with
large differently coloured shield-shaped panels enclosing ho-o birds
alternating with writhing dragons, the ring handle gilt and plain. 51
