           flight above and a fenghuang (phoenix) on rocks, fashioned in pile of
           varying depths.

           18th century
           The cartouche-shaped box painted on the hinged cover with a
           European gentleman and lady within a garden setting, surrounded by   240
           curling acanthus leaves, the sides applied with relief European figures
           alternating to floral shrubs and scrollwork.

           and upper and lower ‘hump-backed’ stretchers, all with moulded
           edges.

           Rising from a straight foot to a gently flared, lipped mouth rim, the
           sides deeply carved with typical pommel scrolls showing the deep
