A BRONZE FIGURE OF A WRATHFUL
BUDDHIST DEITY AND CONSORT
Probably 18th century
Probably representing Mahakala, the deity
cast trampling on demons and wearing a tiger
skin, four of the six arms holding attributes
including a prayer wheel, a lasso, a lotus and
a severed head, the two final arms cradling
the female consort and holding a kapala bowl
and chopper, all raised on a lotus plinth.

Cast standing with eight arms and eleven
heads arranged in five tiers surmounted by
one head with a wrathful expression topped
by a small head of Amitabha Buddha, the
hands fanned out in various mudras, and
holding various attributes, the body adorned
with beaded jewellery, with stand. 16.5cm
(6.1/2in) long. (2).

Wearing a pointed tiara and sitting in
padmasana on a base with double rows of
small lappets, the four-armed deity holding
a vase with the elixir of long life, a scroll of
sacred texts, a lasso and a further implement.
