A famille verte baluster vase
Kangxi
Vividly enamelled with a continuous scene with
a supplicant approaching a superbly armoured
commander surrounded by warriors and ladies
in a pavilion overlooking a garden landscape, the
scene divided by cloud scrolls containing an incised
inscription, the shoulder decorated with iron-red
lotus flowerheads on a green scroll ground, beneath
a continuous bamboo and rockwork scene around
the neck, wood stand.

The incised characters on the body read:
霞湖 Xia Hu
峰山曾公 Feng Shan Zeng Gong
公會喜捨 Gong Hui Xi She
which may be translated as ‘Given by the
association to Mr. Zeng of Fengshan, Xiahu’.

enamelling and dated to the late 17th century, is

Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam: The
