                           Finely enamelled in the centre with Xiwangmu, the
                           Goddess of Longevity, and a chariot with deer, with
                           three bats flying above, framed by two underglaze
                           blue double circles, the reverse decorated with a
                           pattern of shou characters. 39cm (15 3/8in) diam.

                           The present lot, depicting Xiwangmu, the Queen
                           Mother of the West, and a symbol of longevity,
                           would have been considered most suitable as a
                           birthday gift for Court lady. Compare a very similar
                           dish in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in
                           The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace
                           Museum: Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting
                           Colours, Hong Kong, 1999, no.102, and another
                           illustrated by Wang Qingzheng, Kangxi Porcelain
                           Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong
                           Kong, 1998, no.98.

                           Early Kangxi
                           The straight sides rising to a flared rim, the central
                           medallion painted in underglaze blue and finely
                           enamelled with a phoenix flying above a qilin besides
                           bamboo, rockwork and flowers, a floral border at the
                           rim, the base with a phoenix enclosed in a pentafoil
                           medallion. 30.5cm (12in) diam.

                           ‘lotus pond’ baluster

                           Well potted, the rounded sides rising up to a straight
                           rim decorated with a band of floral sprays, the body
                           finely enamelled with a continuous lotus pond scene
                           showing butterflies and birds flying over a pond with
                           blossoming lotus flowers and two herons, the cover
                           also decorated with lotus flowers and butterflies.
